ScanSafe to Present on Protecting Roaming Workers at Infosecurity Europe Conference

Leading Provider of Web Security-as-a-Service to Examine Security Challenges Posed by Roaming Laptops

LONDON —April 22, 2008 —ScanSafe, the pioneer and leading provider of Web Security-as-a-Service, today announced that Dan Nadir, vice president of product strategy will present a session on “Closing a Tough Gap:  Securing Roaming Employees,” at the Infosecurity Europe 2008 conference being held April 22-24, 2008 Grand Hall, Olympia.

The presentation, to take place April 24 at 2: 00 p.m. in the Business Seminar Theatre, will outline how new Internet and Web-based technologies are making it easier than ever for employees work remotely and as a result IT security administrators are struggling to secure and manage use of the roaming workers’ chief tool – the corporate-issued laptop.

According to IDC, there will be 1 billion mobile workers worldwide by 2011. As working remotely continues to be a growing trend, IT security teams are recognizing the value of business information on laptop computers – more than £250,000 per laptop according to CIO. This raises concerns of data loss which could have a considerable impact on corporate reputation as well as meeting regulatory compliance.

In a recent survey of its customers, ScanSafe found that 92 percent were concerned about Web usage and security for roaming users—users who work. Despite this, nearly half of them are not enforcing Web usage for roaming workers. Forty percent admitted that they have been hit by a security threat as a result of roaming worker’s use of their laptop in the last 12 months, and 65 percent of companies reported roaming workers tampering or disabling security features on their laptop. Companies should take this as a call to action to implement suitable security measures instead of waiting to be hit by a security threat.

In his presentation, Dan Nadir will provide practical advice for IT security departments charged with protecting remote users outside of the corporate firewall against Web-based threats. The presentation will provide an overview of today’s threat environment, analyze the challenges of protecting roaming workers and outline how security managers can address these challenges.
