V.Ships Selects Leading Managed Web Security Provider to Protect its Global IT Network from Rising Tide of Web-based Malware

ScanSafe Inc., the global leader in managed Web security, today announced that V.Ships, the world's largest provider of independent ship management and related marine services, is using its solutions to protect its corporate network from the increase in Web-based malware.

V.Ships is using ScanSafe's complete range of Web security and control tools including Web Virus Scanning, Spwyare Screening and Web Filtering to block Web-borne malware and monitor Web usage for more than 1,300 users in 26 countries.

"We've noticed an increased number of attacks directed towards Web-based applications," said Walter Wilson, group network and security manager, V.Ships. "Web-based communication is our number one business application. Any ingress to our corporate network from viruses or any other kind of malware is taken extremely seriously."

Prior to deploying ScanSafe's services, V.Ships had a number of in-house legacy IT systems, each with its own anti-virus software, requiring constant updating with the latest signatures and virus definitions.

As a managed service, ScanSafe blocks malware and unwanted content before it reaches the corporate network, requiring no hardware, no software and no time-consuming and costly maintenance. To date, ScanSafe has blocked more than 560 malicious Web viruses and 150,000 spyware and adware programs per month for V.Ships.

"Managing IT security in-house can be a daunting task for companies with limited IT resources," said Eldar Tuvey, CEO and co-founder, ScanSafe. "ScanSafe removes this overhead completely and allows IT managers to focus on other critical tasks, safe in the knowledge that their network is being constantly protected from the latest Web threats."

Traditional on-premise solutions and desktop anti-virus software can also leave corporate networks exposed to malware that emerges before an anti-virus signature is available. According to ScanSafe's latest Global Threat Report, 13 percent of all Web viruses it blocked on behalf of its customers in July were identified by Outbreak IntelligenceTM, the company's proprietary heuristics engine that can detect and block these zero-hour threats.

"With no latency issues, it's reassuring to know that our Web traffic is being monitored and filtered at source by ScanSafe's team of security specialists, before threats reach our network," Wilson said.
